ritual, for brass quintet (2015)

This piece derives its title and idea from a Buddhist ritual that I attended a few years ago, which I was particularly drawn to:

(1) moments when the vocal chanting and the music entwined with each other, resulting in a state that was both directional and lingering, and

(2) the deliberate temporal contrast between the seemingly static sound world and the monks' wandering about in the physical space. almost marching-like fashion.
